This 1967 Chrysler 300 has been in the care of it’s third owner since 1996. Richard was looking for this car; he just didn’t know where he would find it. In 1996, Richard’s brother put out an ad on the internet through Listserv and he got a response from Fair Oaks, California.
At the time, Richard was living in Plattsburgh, New York, and after receiving pictures from the current owner of a great looking car, it was time to get a second opinion. Rather than flying out there, Richard decided to join the Chrysler 300 Club in hope of guidance with his quest.
As things that are meant to be go, Richard discovered a club member lived twenty miles from the seller’s home. Richard made contact, sent him some money for gas and his time, and the news came back that it was the cleanest ’67 he’d ever seen.
Well soon after, the seller had accepted Richard’s offer just south of the $5000 asking price and the 300 was on a flatbed headed east to Plattsburgh.
Since acquiring the car, Richard has spoke with the original owner from 1967 – 1991. “I purchased ‘The Green Hornet’ because I needed a car that could climb the hills in this area, and the 440 delivered!” he told Richard. In addition to the car, he also received all the receipts from every service that has been performed on it going back to the original owner.
The second owner drove the car to an occasional show, but only added a few hundred miles to the 300′s clock during a five year period of limited use. Richard bought the car with 55,956 miles and has add another 6,500 of his own.
“I wax the car several times a year and drive it to as many local shows as I can,” says Richard. “It’s an all-original car including paint, chrome, interior, dash, headliner, engine, and transmission.”
Since owning the car, Richard has modified the exhaust running duels with an H pipe, upgraded the weak stock ignition to electronic, and dressed up the engine by adding chrome valve covers and a dual snorkel air cleaner.
Richard puts about 10 miles a week on it and uses fuel additives with the unleaded gasoline. The engine is a 440 cubic inch, 350 horse power / 480 lb. ft. torque, running through a 727 3-speed automatic to the rear end with a 2.76:1 rear gear. The power plant is topped of with a 4bbl Carter and casting # 915 closed-chambered heads. All that moves this 18.5 foot, 4,400 pound Mopar down the road.
Air conditioning, tinted windows, fender mounted turn-signal indicators, bucket seats, and AM radio are the options that are included in this classic.
Richard is not aware of any road test conducted on a 1967 Chrysler 300 back then. Between 1966 and 1971, the quickest was 0-60 mph in 7.1 seconds and 1/4 mile in 15.3, and the slowest was 0-60 mph in 8.9 seconds and 1/4 mile in 16.8 seconds. “So all factors considered, the ’67 is somewhere in the middle.”
