The 5th Annual Leland Under the Lights Car Show, hosted by the North Brunswick County Chamber of Commerce was scheduled the first Saturday in August just at the previous four years.
Starting off with a few dozen vehicles in the shopping center off Village Road in Leland, the event has grown and is now held off Hwy 17, in the Wal-Mart parking lot. Attracting an estimated 300 vehicles and 3,000 spectators, the show started forming before the official start time.
The event featured a live band and folks had the opportunity to by raffle tickets for a new BMW that was to be given away that evening by one of the event sponsors.
The show had entries from Southport, Hampstead, Wilmington, Shallotte, Leland, and other nearby towns. As the heat of the day faded away with the sunset, an evening breeze was welcomed by participants.
The 6th Annual Leland Under The Lights Car Show has a new date and new location. The event is moving to the other side of Highway 17 to the Harris-Teeter Parking Lot and is scheduled for Saturday September 19, 2009.
