The Capital City Cruisers Car Club hosted their 3rd Annual Car Show on Saturday, August 22, 2009 at Grand Strand Pizza and Subs in Raleigh, North Carolina.
The club is composed by a group of men and women who utilize the passion of classic automobiles and custom rods to make a difference in their community by assisting in fund raising events for local organizations. Rain was fore-casted to arrive by early afternoon and the time schedule for the awards was pushed forward and concluded just as the storm arrived.
The show had many very nice vehicles despite the gloomy weather. Don cruised his 1953 Chevrolet 3100 five window pickup from Cary, North Carolina. His gloss black hauler is a result of a total frame-off restoration. The 350 cubic inch engine is now cradled by a Camaro sub-frame and backed by a 350 automatic transmission. Other upgrades include power steering, power windows, power disc brakes, tilt steering column, and air conditioning. The truck is real looker from every angle.
A few rows over, another Don motored his 1934 Ford Fordor in from nearby Garner, North Carolina. The unfinished state of the sedan didn’t keep Don from rolling in on wire wheels and enjoying the show, nor should it.
The Capital City Cruisers enjoy cruising, but pause a few seconds to look at their rides, and it’s no secret they like cruising a fraction of a mile at a time. This blue Chevrolet pickup truck looked the part. A narrowed rear end made just enough room for two Mickey Thomson slicks to tuck under the bed. The slicks were wrapped around aluminum Centerline drag wheels.
Among the pickups and street rods, the muscle car contingent was not to be out done. Tom drove his ultra desirable 1971 Oldsmobile 442 W-30. The black on black with white racing stripes scheme made it look fast while it was sitting still. A set of block lettered Good Year Eagle GT II tires with the timeless big and little combination of Cragar S/S wheels, complimented the stock characteristics of this General Motors gem. As Tom headed out of the parking lot back home to Apex, North Carolina, the rumble from the the dual exhaust gave notice that it could run as well as it looked.
Central Carolina Cruisers, Circle City Cruisers, Tar River Cruizers, Piedmont Classic Chevy, and Triangle Thunder Cruisers were some of the clubs who had members participate in Capital City Cruisers’ 3rd Annual Car Show. Carsolina thanks the Capital City Cruisers for putting on this event and everyone who braved the weather and put their classic vehicles on display for all to enjoy.
No need to apologize. A great time was had by all Piedmont members. Glad to continue supporting the fine organization the Capital City Cruisers is. See y’all in and around the Piedmont .

Hi Just want to say, thanks to you for your coverage of our car show and to all that came out to make this event a success. I hope everyone enjoyed themselves. I apologize to all for the rush at the end. We were trying to get everything in before the rain, but as the saying goes, you can’t mess with Mother Nature. I promise next year will be bigger and better, weather permitting. Again thanks to all for your support. Butch
I attended this show and it was a cool show.
