The Goodguys Rod & Custom Association held the 16th Southeastern Nationals this past weekend in Concord, North Carolina at Lowe’s Motor Speedway. This Goodguys event was open to vehicle models of 1972 and earlier.
J.R. was able to escape long enough to cruise from Hickory, North Carolina in his 1932 Ford bus powered by a Chevrolet 455 cubic inch engine. The heavy metal rod was a magnent for spectators all day.
This year, the Goodguys utilized the world class facility that is ZMax Dragway for the Nostalgia Drags on Friday. Also racing through the weekend, were contestants in the Goodguys Street Challenge Autocross. A 1948 Plymouth Coupe and a 1967 Chevrolet Chevelle were two of the many cool machines mashing the pedals and heating up the binders while racing the clock.
As part of every Goodguys National event, a large parts swap meet and car corral was again a popular draw for guys and gals looking for their next project or parts to complete their current ride. Everything from a 1948 Chevrolet Deluxe 1 ton Panel Truck that was looking for someone to make it road worthy again, to a completely street rodded, rare 1935 Buick Model 58C Vicky.
Just before the sun dissapeared behind the grandstand, the participant favorite track cruised started lining up and rods and customs cruised the speedway under the lights. The night ended with rain coming down as the die-hards enjoyed the rest of the evening.
Carsolina thanks the Goodguys for another entertaining event, and everyone who participated in the 16th Southeastern Nationals.
