The cold temperature on Saturday December 12, 2009 wasn’t nearly enough to keep the kind warm hearted people at home. Many came out to participate in the 17th Annual Brunswick County Motorcycle Enthusiasts Toy Run. The event is organized and promoted by all volunteers and 100% of all money raised goes directly to underprivileged children in Brunswick County.
The event included a poker run, inviting motorcycle riders and classic car owners to cruise together for a worthy cause. Registration was set up at the Shallotte, North Carolina Wal-Mart and the group left from there to go on a police escorted poker run. The run returned to Wal-Mart where the real reason of the Brunswick Motorcycle Enthusiasts existence becomes apparent. Bikers and classic car owners escort children through the store where each child is given $100. Half of may be spent on toys and games, and the other on needs like shoes, clothing, or diapers. The children are selected from recommendations of teachers, pastors, police, fire, EMS, and social services.
One of the many supporters of the Brunswick County Motorcycle Enthusiasts Toy Run is Ocean Isle Collision that hosts Bill Tripp’s Classic Car Meet in Ocean Isle Beach, NC. There is also a Spring Poker Run held in May by the Brunswick County Motorcycle Enthusiasts that raises money for the end of year event. The event is also supported by the Cape Fear Cruisers Car Club from nearby South Port, North Carolina and the Tri-Beach Cruisers Car Club located in Shallotte, North Carolina.
