Hot Rods Viewed Through A Lens

Carsolina Wallpaper Style #5

Daniel’s passions include photography and classic cars. Anyone who has seen the wallpaper images available for download on Carsolina has been able to view Daniel’s artistic talent.

I asked Daniel to tell me about his website and what someone can expect to see when they visit DanielCzajaPhotography.com

“Right now the site is a work in progress until I get everything up”, Daniel responded.  ”My site is to showcase my portfolio. It’s some of the work that I’ve done; the work that is actually proven.  When someone asks me about my photography, the first thing they want to do is see the work that I’ve done. It’s one thing to say, ‘Oh yeah, I can come out and take a photo of your car’ while claiming to be a good photographer, and say all those things. And then after the photographer is paid and it’s time to deliver, you may find out the photographer can’t take a good photo of your car. There is more to it than just snapping the shot. It’s editing, good composition, lighting, and there are so many different aspects of a good photograph.”

“And you have to have a portfolio,” continued Daniel. “There has to be proof of my work and that’s what this site is. It’s really an online gallery. I want the same type of feeling as when someone walks into an art gallery and you’re drawn to certain photos, you’re drawn to a certain genre and style of photography. Whether it’s landscapes or seascapes, surfing pictures, classic cars, people, or architecture. Whatever it is you like you’re going to be drawn to that. My site is really for people to just walk into the gallery and to be drawn to what they appreciate. So it’s a proof of work of what I can do and what I have done.”

I asked Daniel to tell me why he enjoys photography.

Daniel replied, “When visiting an art gallery, some people spend time looking at two or three works of art, and others make it a point to look at every one. A photograph is telling a story through a still picture of that moment in time. And sometimes it’s more of a story and sometimes it better represents a moment in time. Let’s take a classic car. Maybe it’s something that you have built yourself and have invested money and time and work into reaching that moment when you feel that you have accomplished what you were working for. There is a real emotion for the owner when that milestone is reached. And a good photograph of a classic car, when the owner looks at it, the photograph captures that and allows the owner to feel that emotion every time they look at it. And that’s what I am trying to do. Preserving all the hard work in a photograph that can last forever, no matter what happens to the car.”

When I asked Daniel to share what subjects he enjoys shooting he has his personal favorites, but keeps an open eye to anything that may present itself.

“I’m going to capture the perspective of what I am seeing and there are certain things that I am looking for,” he said. ”When I go to a car show I am looking for the different lines that a car may have. The different colors and how the light is hitting the car; the different details of the vehicles and the perspective that I can capture those different qualities. I look at it from a different perspective. I look at it from a photography standpoint and I am going to walk around the entire car and look at what will make this car stand out in a photograph. And I take photos of that car and in a way that paints a picture of the surroundings and the environment that the car is in. And I also use that approach when I photograph people and landscapes as well. I evaluate what is available to use in the composition of a photograph. I always have an open mind and don’t exclude trying new and different techniques.”

Daniel added, “I do love shooting action sports and surfing and I love the classic cars too. I love the different lines, the color, the chrome, the lighting, everything. When it comes to people, it’s not up on the site right now, but I’ve started a project where the entire frame is someone’s face. It doesn’t have any outside distractions and each one is completely unique. That’s something that can be found in every photograph each one is going to be different and each one is going to invoke a different response. Each one will show something different whether it’s lighting, color, or composition.”

As Daniel uploads more of his work and it becomes part of his online portfolio, “Will you be adding more classic cars?”, I asked.

“Now that I am not in Hawaii and I have moved back on the mainland there will definitely be more opportunities for classic cars,” Daniel shared. “I will be adding more photos from the islands that I have already done, but overtime, ultimately my portfolio will take on a mainland feeling. I have been shooting more classic cars and custom motorcycles and eventually you will see that featured on the website along with the Faces portfolio that I talked about earlier.”

Daniel’s work had been purchased from all over United States and as far away as England, Poland, and Japan. I want to thank Daniel for his time, not only for this article, but also for sharing his combined passion of photography and classic cars with everyone who cruises Carsolina.  Daniel’s virtual gallery and online portfolio is located at www.danielczajaphotography.com.
