2nd Lady Trojans Softball Open Car Show

The 2nd Annual Lady Trojans Open Car Show included a 1923 Ford Model T with an Arkansas Street Rod License Plate. A black prostreet Chevrolet Nova, a 1942 Chevrolet Pickup with a custom wood bed, and a 1931 Ford Model A were a few of the classics in the show.

1996 NSRA 27th Street Rod Nationals

July 18, 1996 was cloudy day that so far had a steady drizzle of rain. I was following my Dad as wondered around a muddy gravel parking lot that was roped off and and designated as the swap meet area during the 27th Annual NSRA Street Rod Nationals in Columbus, Ohio.

Northwood Assembly 2nd Car Truck & Motorcycle Show

For those that attended the 1st Annual Northwood Charity Car, Truck & Motorcycle Show in 2008, there were some familiar vehicles that returned for the 2009 edition. One such vehicle was a rare 1941 Ford Panel Delivery belonging to Joe of Whiteville, NC. Joe is entertaining the idea of selling it to persue a 1950 Mercury that has caught his eye.

17th Brunswick County Motorcycle Enthusiasts Toy Run

The event included a poker run, inviting motorcycle riders and classic car owners to cruise together for a worthy cuase. Registration was set up at the Shallotte, North Carolina Wal-Mart and the group left from there to go on a police escorted poker run.

Bonneville Salt Flats Speed Week 2009

The Southern California Timing Association (SCTA) and Bonneville Nationals Inc. (BNI) hosted the Land Speed Racing spectacle that is Bonneville Speed Week. My good friend and all around automotive enthusiast John was in attendacnce this past August and shot these pictures of his visit to the Salt Flats in Utah during the 2009 Speed Week.

Goodguys 16th Southeastern Nationals

The Goodguys Rod & Custom Association held the 16th Southeastern Nationals this past weekend in Concord, North Carolina at Lowe’s Motor Speedway. This Goodguys event was open to vehicle models of 1972 and earlier.

11th Annual All Ford Car And Truck Show

A clean black 1949 Ford in near stock form excluding the addition of a set of exhaust headers on the flathead V8 engine and wide-white radials cruised to the event. A timeless piece that came out of the state of Maryland three years ago. It was in the care of the current owner who was finishing up the final pre-judging polishing and shared that he aquired ‘49 with a promise to the seller that the vehicle would not be turned in to a hot rod.

Rumblin’ In The Port City With The Maulers

The Port City Rumble was held in the streets of downtown Wilmington and had good weather. The traditional creeper races had several exciting heat races leading up to the final death defying drag. After the completion of the creeper race, a few customs got together and put on a flame throwing exhibition to the crowds delight.

Leland Under The Lights

The Leland resident ran out of room on the window card listing all the trick features on this hot rod. The ‘23 is powered by a 2003 Baja Boat 6.2 liter Mercruiser engine, breathing through a cross ram intake manifold and dual carburetor setup that had been in storage for 40 years. The 415 horse power producing combination moves the body that has been stretched 12 inches and sits on a homemade frame through a Tarentola Hydro manual shift 350 transmission. A Speedway Engineering quick change rear end out back turning the big Hoosier Racing tires, and reversed Corvair steering with sprint car steering arms out front, anchor the four disc brake calipers.

Charlotte AutoFair Has Antique Flair

The Charlotte AutoFair is held twice annually at the Lowe’s Motor Speedway in Concord, North Carolina. It is one part drive-in theater flea market, one part Concours d’Elegance, with carnival fun and local car club cruise-in appeal mixed in.

Wheels At The Beach Car Show, Myrtle Beach, SC

Over 200 hot rods, classics, muscle cars, antiques, and unique vehicles parked along Farrow Parkway in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina and participated in the event. Corvette, Chevelle, Mustang, Monte Carlo, and Camaro, were some of the usual suspects that were in the lineup. Two of the names that are less common that were also represented at the 2009 Wheels At The Beach Car Show were Hudson and Austin Healy.

National Street Rod Association 5th Richmond Nationals

A flip-front 1973 Chevrolet Vega Wagon Drag Car, super smooth 1953 Studebaker powered by a Chevy small-block engine, and an all original bone stock 1936 Dodge, were a few of the many cool cars from Virginia that dominated the 5th Annaul Show. Hemi muscle cars, flat black rat rods, traditional hot rods with flames, metal flake painted customs, and of course, super smooth street rods were all part of the 2009 NSRA Richmond Nationals.

Capital City Cruisers 3rd Annual Car Show

The Capital City Cruisers Car Club hosted their 3rd Annual Car Show on Saturday, August 22, 2009 at Grand Strand Pizza and Subs in Raleigh, North Carolina. The show had some very nice vehicles despite the gloomy weather.

Hot Nights & Cool Rides In Forest City, North Carolina

Whether it’s the fountain in the middle of Main Street, or the people who greet you along the way, this western North Carolina town is very inviting. Also home to Forest City is the Hot Nights and Cool Rides Car Show. August 15, 2009 was the 18th edition of this annual event. Downtown was blocked off and antique automobiles, street rods, hot rods, and vintage vehicles lined every curb space available for the day long show.

Hawaii Hot Rods, Cruising Island Style

The term “hot rod” is more likely to send your mind to a quarter-mile drag strip, a burger joint, or even an old drive-in movie theater before landing on that exotic island in the middle of the Pacific Ocean where Elvis filmed all those movies with a Ukulele. But maybe the term should be higher on the list as the hot rod scene in Honolulu, Hawaii is alive and well.
